Mentor Meeting/Class (5/16/11)

Today, I met my Mentor, Ms. Perl, as the typical Monday would follow. As the routine goes, we went over what progress I made last week, and what the plan was for this week. My goals made in a check list style, seeing that is the most effective way for me to complete my goals. Here's what we established:

-Instead of just doing 2 articles this week, I should do 3, just to be safe.

-Continue with the community outreach, see if you can make them part of your research

-Finish the Learned Ladies play

-Start and finish skit #3

-Start your paper for WISE

After this brief meeting, it was time to go to WISE class for the weekly meeting. In WISE we signed up to observe other students presentations. I signed up for Dana Malcom's and Tristan Intemann's. Also, we discussed our creative projects. I couldn't print mine out, so I'm going to post mine up here.

WISE Project: The Soundtrack

  1. Walking on a Dream by Empire Of The Sun

My project can relate to this song in several ways. To begin with, the title it's self is “Walking On A Dream”. The meaning of this to me, is basically just following your dreams. You're literally above your dreams, and succeeded all your goals, which is what WISE is pushing for. Also, the hook of this song goes “We are always running for the thrill of it”. To me, this means basically pushing yourself to the point where it's not a chore, but a form a joy. Film making is my dream, and I want to push myself for the thrill of it.

  1. Moment 4 Life ft. Drake by Nikki Minaj

This song is about having a moment so amazing that you wish it could last for life, as depicted in the title of the song. This feeling of joy and adrenaline is what I experience when I watch videos from the past. Lyrics from this song include “This moment, I've waited all my life, I can tell it's time” which inspires me to do push myself, like it's my moment. Another lyrics I found relevant to my project was “I'm trying to make more than what it is, because everybody dies but not everybody lives” which it what I try do when I make my videos, essentially have fun with it, make the best of it.

  1. Fix You by Coldplay

While this song is about one man's love for a woman who is emotionally hurt, I find relevance of this song to my WISE project because I intend to use it, for either a promo or just an emotional part of a video. The bridge of the song has a emotional guitar, a sensitive piano chord progression and pretty intense drums. The part I am referring to starts 2:35 and goes until the end of the song.

  1. Hallelujah by Rufus Wainwright

This is one of my favorite songs ever. When I first heard this on Shrek (the scene where Shrek and Fiona are basically broken up in the first movie), It's probably one of the best break up scenes I've seen in any movie. This relates to my project because it's inspiration for me to create something as great and amazing as that scene. On top of this, this is a very inspiring and enlightening song, and it helps motivate me in times of stress, and WISE can be stressful.

  1. The Good Times Are Killing Me by Modest Mouse

This song is essentially an ode to the best of times. This is what I hope to somewhat feel when this project is all over and done. Its how I usually feel when I look at past projects. I feel like when I film it's like we're making good times and we are capturing them on camera, and that's what I hope some people see in my WISE project, we're just a couple of kids having good times.

  1. Time Of Your Life by Green Day

The reason for this song corresponds pretty much to reasons for the song above. I saw this song on Seinfeld and it was perfect for a montage of the best moments of the show. I figured it could serve perfectly for a blooper reel or a highlight montage.

  1. We've Only Just Begun by The Carpenters

This song is about continuing to press forward, regardless of obstacles. I find this song heart warming, especially in times when I am stressed about my project. Not only are the lyrics motivating, but the instrumental music behind is relaxing as well.

  1. Fun Punch by Bag Raiders

While this song literally has no words, and is just an instrumental, I am going to use it in my project. It is a very heavy, intense, pounding electro song. It is very perfect for a promo video, or for a very epic fight scene.

  1. Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders

This song is in one of my films. It is a catchy song, with an upbeat feel. I am going to use it in an uplifting scene, or probably at the ending of one of my skits. It fits perfectly.

  1. Won't Believe The Fools by Example

This song is about not succumbing to negative criticism. In this case, the negative criticism will be of my WISE work. I feel this attitude is important to anything you're passionate about. You should take the criticism as something to build upon, and not just give up. While ultimately my grade in WISE will be somewhat a judgement of my work, I know whatever happens I will come out as a stronger person and film maker.
